Matt Piscatella of The NPD Group revealed on Twitter that the PS5 surpassed April 2022 in the US in terms of hardware dollar sales, while the Nintendo Switch reached another milestone, surpassing the PS4 in sales to date.

According to Piscatella, video game hardware sales rose 16% year-over-year to $343 million, primarily due to increased offerings for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, hardware spending fell to $1.5 billion, a 9% year-over-year decline.

In terms of software, LEGO: Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was the best-selling game of April 2022, as well as the second best-selling game of the year to date.

Meanwhile, Elden Ring finished in second place last month and is still the best-selling game of the year so far; it’s also eclipsed Call of Duty: Vanguard as the best-selling premium game of the 12-month period ending April 2022.
