The last season of Ozark is just around the corner with the remaining 7 episodes of Season 4 set to air on April 29, 2022. Here’s our updated guide to everything you need to know for the final season of one of Netflix’s most beloved shows, including what to expect, first details about the accompanying documentary, and more.
One of the best shows Netflix has to offer, Ozark has been a standout performer since his July 2017 debut. Each season has gone from strength to strength, and so have all of the actors’ performances. That has made for one of the most entertaining shows in the Netflix library.
Ozark was created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams. Jason Bateman is an executive producer alongside Dubuque and Williams, but is also the main protagonist of the series.
When will Ozark season 4 part 2 Netflix release date?
Netflix released a date announcement trailer on YouTube, which revealed that the final season of Ozark will be released on Netflix on Friday, April 29, 2022†
It will be released along with the seventh and final season of Grace and Frankie.
On March 30, 2022, Netflix released their official trailer for Season 4, Part 2 of Ozark†
Spoiler Warning: The trailer contains a major spoiler for the final episodes.
Why was the last season of? Ozark split into two halves? It is more and more common that we see with last seasons or extended seasons in the case of: Stranger things.
Chris Mundy spoke to The New York Post about how splitting the seasons affected the writing process.
“It’s difficult, as writers, because we have to see it as one last act and yet we also realize that people are going to experience it as two different viewing experiences. So there must be a satisfying ending to the first half and the feeling of starting in the second – and yet it must all go downhill to our conclusion. We’ve talked endlessly about how to get both of these things done, because on paper they don’t easily coexist.”
An Ozark documentary is coming to Netflix
In addition to the release of Ozark Season 4 Part 2, there will be a new look back at the series available on Netflix. It will be called A Farewell to Ozark†
Here’s what to expect:
“The piece, which will be available on Netflix, explores the genesis of the series, the rich characters we loved and hated, the poignant performances that captivated us, the creatives who made magic behind the camera and a treasure of memories from the past five years.”
You can catch a glimpse of this documentary in this short “inside look” posted by Netflix on April 14.
What to expect from? Ozark season 4 part 2?
The last seven episodes of Ozark Season 4 will be one of the most dramatic we’ve seen yet.
Ruth on a rampage
Upon finding the bodies of Darlene and her cousin Wyatt, Ruth is snapped and out for revenge. At first she thought it was Frank Jr. was behind the murders, but she soon learned from her confrontation at the Byrde’s house that it was actually Javi who was responsible.
Gun in hand, Ruth warned Marty and Wendy that the only way they can stop her from killing Javi is to kill her. If Ruth can find and kill Javi, it will disrupt the deal between the Navarro cartel and the FBI, which could have unintended consequences for all parties involved.
But will Marty and Wendy warn Javi and the FBI? Or will they use this as an opportunity to get out of the Navarro cartel for good?
Mel and Maya take out the Byrdes?
Ex-cop Mel has been working all season for Helen’s divorced husband and tries to find out her whereabouts. Meanwhile, FBI agent Maya is under Marty’s thumb, and thus the Navarro cartel.
Angered by the senior FBI’s decision to let the Navarro cartel work for them for the next ten years, Maya rebelled and ensured her arrest of Omar Navarro caught the attention of the media. However, this does mean that Maya has now firmly planted a target on her back.
Mel was impressed with her work and was able to get in touch with Maya, and if the pair worked together, we could see the ultimate demise of the Byrdes.
Will the Byrdes reunite?
Wendy and Jonah have been at odds all season, and the tensions only escalated when Wendy tried to have Jonah arrested by sabotaging his money laundering work for Ruth. In another act of rebellion, Jonah gave the name of Javi to Ruth.
The tension between Wendy and Jonah has also created friction between Marty and Wendy, who are the former disappointed that she tried to have their own son arrested just to prove her point. There has also been some conflict between Jonah and Charlotte, who is now firmly on her parents’ side and more than willing to step into the family business.
Will Wendy’s political ambition collapse?
Since the second season, Wendy has been on an incredible power trip, making her one of the most ruthless characters in Ozark. Even though she didn’t pull the trigger herself, Wendy is responsible for the deaths of a handful of people, like her own brother, not to mention ruining the lives of many others, like Ruth.
Wendy juggles many spinning boards, and when Ruth seeks revenge on Javi, she can completely destroy her deal with Claire Shaw, who is providing $150 million for Wendy’s foundation. With Omar under arrest and if Javi is killed by Ruth, there’s no guarantee the Navarro cartel will continue to move the product, which supplies Shaw Medical Solutions with all the pure drugs it needs for research.
Without the $150 million “war chest” Wendy will not be able to achieve any of her political ambitions, which will destroy her reputation and any political ambitions she has left.
Who lives and who dies?
With only seven episodes to go, we were able to see a lot of deaths in an extremely short amount of time. We’d be shocked if the Byrdes made it out of the Ozarks unscathed, and thanks to the car accident early in the season, we could see an early fatality in Part 2, most likely Charlotte or Jonah.
As for the rest of the cast, everyone is on the list of possible deaths and no one is safe.
When was the last season of Ozark filmed?
The entire fourth season was filmed in blocks over the course of eleven months between November 2020 and October 2021† We suspect the final batch of episodes is going through the editing treatment, and it won’t be long before all of them are finished.
What is the episode count for Ozark Season 4 Part 2?
For those who don’t know, the final installment will also feature seven episodes, making the final season 14 blockbuster-sized episodes.
Here’s a breakdown of who writes each individual episode:

- Episode 9 was written by Laura Deeley
- Episode 10 was written by John Shiban
- Episode 11 was written by Ning Zhou
- Episode 12 is written by Paul Kolsby & Martin Zimmerman
- Episode 13 was written by Miki Johnson

Laura Linney will make her directorial debut this final season. The actress becomes directing the 11th episode†
Amanda Marsalis will direct four episodes of the final season.
Notably, Jason Bateman will direct the season finale, as confirmed via a clapperboard posted to Instagram by Eric Koretz, who serves as DP (Director of Photography) for the series.
Should Julie Garner earn a third Emmy for her performance as Ruth Langmore?
Just when you think Julia Garner couldn’t get any better in her role as Ruth Langmore, she completely sweeps the rug from under your feet and delivers another incredible performance worthy of all the most prestigious awards Hollywood can offer.
Garner has already won two well-deserved Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama. Both awards were for her performances in the second and third seasons of Ozark, respectively. Of course anyone who has seen part 1 will demand that Julia Garner earn the prize a third time, if not we will revolt, right?
