A famous musician praised Olivia Rodrigo for her impact on youth
She may have started out as a Disney starlet by starring in “High School Musical: The Musical — The SeriesBut Olivia Rodrigo never saw herself staying within the Disney mold. Instead, she established herself as one of the most popular artists on the scene today with hits like the notorious “Driver’s License” to her credit.
Between receiving the Grammy for Best New Artist this year (via CBS) and collecting two chart positions on the Billboard Hot 100 (via Billboard), she has won accolades and all sorts of attention for her songwriting and performance abilities. According to Spotify, her debut album “Sour” has also had an incredible year on the streaming platform. There have been over 5.9 billion streams of the album since its release in May 2021.
But even beyond the charts and professional accolades, Rodrigo is a pop culture icon. After all, her songs inspired the skits from “Saturday Night Live” (via Vulture† While she may appreciate all of those things, there is one moment that seems to stand out from the rest. Recently, Rodrigo met one of her longtime idols, Jack White.
The White Stripes icon had many good things to say about her impact on younger generations of music fans.
Jack White called Olivia Rodrigo ‘very cool, very real and very much a lover of music’
Jack White is famous for many reasons. For example, the rocker has 12 Grammys in his name. But to Olivia Rodrigo, he’s more than just a musician. In a message on Instagram, she described him as her ‘hero of all heroes’. The singer of “Deja Vu” clearly identified herself as a “fangirl” of the artist. And the respect is apparently mutual.
White single-handedly re-shared the photos of their meeting Instagram and had nothing but kind words to say about the young star. “I had the chance today to meet a talented singer and musician named @OliviaRodrigo, she is very cool, very real and very much a lover of music,” wrote White. “She also introduces another group of young people to the love for vinyl records. Respect.”
Rodrigo’s love for vinyl records is well documented on her social media. Her album “Sour” is still only available on vinyl website† In a after Rodrigo, who promoted the LP’s vinyl run, said she’s been a long-time enthusiast of the medium. “I’ve discovered so many of my favorite albums through vinyl records and it’s the coolest thing in the world to hold one with songs I’ve written,” she gushed.
